MAN, I FEEL LIKE I HAVE NOT WRITTEN A REVIEW ON THIS BLOG FOR A WHILE! Let alone, I have not written a review for a Taiwanese drama in a LONG TIME on this blog. Look this is another situation where Caitlin watches a drama (other than a kdrama) in the same year it airs. I NEED TO TELL YOU ABOUT OH NO, HERE COMES TROUBLE because if you have not watched this drama yet, YOU NEED TOO!
*Now as per usual with any review I write, I will not be including any spoilers in this review.*
A QUICK SYNOPSIS OF OH NO! HERE COMES TROUBLE - Pu Yi Yong gets into an accident and wakes up with superpowers. Specifically, he can now see and talk to ghosts. He teams up with an old classmate and a cop to help these ghosts cross over as well as figure out a bigger mystery surrounding his family and why he has these powers.
I will tell you all right now I am going to be VERY bias in this review. This is probably one of the best dramas I have watched in 2023 and one of my favorite Taiwanese dramas I have ever seen. I am sure a lot of people who have watched this drama will agree with that statement. I just want you all to know what you are getting into by reading this blog post. You might have clicked on this blogpost because you have already seen this drama and want to see what I say in this blog post. You also might have clicked on this blogpost because you are looking at drama reviews, trying to figure out what to watch next. Alright with that out of the way, LET'S CONTINUE WITH THE REVIEW OF OH NO HERE COMES TROUBLE!
WHAT I LOVED ABOUT THIS DRAMA
THE TRIO - The trio of the main 3 characters is everything with this drama. I loved how their relationship started out and flourished as they got to know each other. I loved how they all supported each other. I especially loved how Chen Chu Ying played by Vivian Sung and Cao Guang Yan played by Peng Cian You supported and were there for Pu Yi Yong played by Tseng Jing Hua. He might not have asked for help or comfort out right but they got to know him so well to know when he needed it without saying anything. These three did a lot for each other. You could tell that these trio came to care about each other when they didn't say anything. They put a lot of heart into this drama and story.
THE ACTING - Most of the cast in this drama I had never seen in a drama before. There were a couple of actors/actresses I had seen before and knew what I was getting into. Guys, THE ACTING WAS SO GOOD! I think it takes some talent to be able to do good acting in both serious/heartbreaking moments as well as comedic moments. THIS CAST DID THIS FLAWLESSLY! I don't want to give anything away as a spoiler but just know you don't have to worry about the acting with this drama.
THE STORIES - I love when a drama does episodic stories. Oh No, Here Comes Trouble does like a ghost/story every 3-4 episodes. It also has an overarching story through the episodes but it concentrates on a ghost for a couple of episodes and then moves on. This allows the audience to become attached to this ghost and their story. LET ME TELL YOU - YOU WILL BECOME ATTACHED TO THESE GHOSTS/STORIES! They are both heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time. You as the audience will relate to these stories. These stories will leave an impact on you. I cried multiple times throughout the drama between these stories and the acting that went along with these stories.
THE UNIQUE ABILITY - Along with Pu Yi Yong being able to talk/see ghosts (which isn't that unique in dramaland) was his ability was attached to calligraphy. I thought that was a nice, unique touch to this drama. I have never watched a drama centered around calligraphy. I found that very interesting and it also drew me into the story because I wanted to know more about calligraphy and how it was all related to everything. The special effects that went along with the calligraphy and ghost seeing was cool as well.
THE COMEDY - THE COMEDY WAS SO FUNNY IN THIS DRAMA! You need comedy in this drama because you were dealing with a lot of heavy themes. I thought the comedy and the more serious moments had a good balance within this drama. I laughed a lot with this comedy which is a plus for me because as I have said before, I have a weird sense of humor. If a drama can make me laugh, THAT IS GOOD! The comedy also was a part of a lot of the heartwarming moments in this drama too.
WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER
NEEDS A SECOND SEASON - This drama did not end on a cliffhanger but it did leave some threads that it could continue in a Season 2. THIS DRAMA NEEDS A SEASON 2!! I want another season with this trio. I know a lot of people who have already watched this drama want a season 2 as well.
DARK/SCARY MOMENTS - I would not say this drama is horror by any means but it does deal with some dark topics. Since there are ghosts, there are some creepy scenes but I wouldn't say out-right SCARY scenes. There are no jump scares or anything. I would just say be warned that there are dark topics discussed like death. Some of ghosts are creepy to look at too but not scary (at least to me).
