SEPTEMBER 2024 WRAP UP

This might be a short blogpost. It will definitely be shorter than some of my other WRAP UP blogposts from other months. Two things contribute to how short this blogpost will be - well maybe 3 things. I did not complete a ton of dramas on September for 1 reason and 1 reason only which I will explain later. The second thing is I am looking forward to only a handful of confirmed dramas in October. I think overall, it is a pretty average number for me but there have been months that I am looking forward to more dramas in the upcoming months, especially more than what I am looking forward to in October. The third reason all depends on how much I have to say about the dramas that are in this blogpost. I might have a lot to say, and I might have very little to say. So, all of that contributes to how short or long this WRAP UP post will be.

DRAMAS/MOVIES I COMPLETED IN SEPTEMBER

SO, in August, I came in with a plan that I would try to empty my current watchlist. I got down to 1 weekender drama by the end of the month. So, I went into September saying I was not going to start any new dramas UNTIL I completed the weekender drama. So, It took me a couple of weeks to finish the drama and have a COMPLETELY empty watchlist. That didn't give me a lot of time to start new dramas and complete those new dramas. So, in September I started A LOT of dramas but did not finish a ton of dramas. October will easily beat September FOR SURE!

Perfect Propose (Jdrama) (VIKI): I enjoyed this Japanese BL more than I thought I would. I liked the main couple together. I liked that they were comfortable around each other. I thought they had a nice, comfortable chemistry together. I wish the drama was longer. I wanted more background on both leads. I wanted there to be more depth to their back story. I also wanted to see them more as a couple at the end. If you like dramas around food, you will like this drama. I actually wanted more food shots in this drama.

RATING: 8.5/10

Bad Thief, Good Thief (Kdrama) (VIKI): This was the one weekender drama that I was trying to finish before starting new dramas. I ended up really liking it. It was worth finishing. This was also my first weekender I ever finished. SO, PROPS TO ME! I loved the found family and the multiple romances we got in this. I did not like the female lead in the beginning, but she grew on me. I thought the story stayed in the childhood part WAY too long. I also thought that this drama covered a lot of different genres like crime, family, romance and it worked out well for it. I was surprised by plot points because I saw it going a different way so, that was good for me. I liked the chemistry of the main couple. Sometimes I wished it was steamier, but it was a comfortable and normal chemistry so, it worked.

RATING: 8/10

Detective Chinatown Season 2 (Cdrama) (IQIYI): I rewatched Season 1 earlier in 2024 and I am now just getting around to watching and completing Season 2. I should have watched this right after Season 2. I really didn't even need to rewatch Season 1 to watch Season 2. I wish I could find some of the Detective Chinatown movies because it would give a greater context and depth to these characters. I still enjoyed this drama, but I did like Season 1 more. Mainly because I found the cases more interesting in Season 1. Season 2 is just as an advertisement for the movie franchise as Season 1 was. I am glad the hacker character got a main role and had more of a main character role in this season. I am a sucker for hacker characters though. Season 2 could have been better, but it also could have been worse.

RATING: 8/10

NEW OCTOBER 2024 DRAMAS I AM EXCITED FOR:

I am curious what I will end up completing in October. I mean, I am assuming I will finish at least a couple of dramas I am currently watching. I also know that there is a Cdrama I need to start and finish in October which I plan to start this weekend. I am looking forward to a decent number of upcoming October Korean dramas. The big thing is I have NO IDEA where any of them are airing. Nothing has been confirmed on what streaming platforms they will on for international audiences, just rumors which I did put into the blogpost.

Dong Jae, The Good or The Bastard (Kdrama) (RUMOR IS PARAMOUNT +) [PREMIERES OCTOBER 10TH, 2024]

I honestly never thought this drama would ever exist. This drama is one of my most anticipated Cdramas of 2024. If you guys don't know what this is, this Kdrama is a spinoff drama from the Stranger Kdrama series. It follows Seo Dong Jae who is a side character in both seasons of the Stranger series. He is a very gray character who you love to hate. He is a weasel and an opportunist but is very entertaining. I am curious what this story of this drama will be. I AM PRAYING THAT IT WILL END UP ON PARAMOUNT PLUS! If it does not end up there, I am just praying we will get it on some international streaming site.

Doubt (Kdrama) (RUMOR IS NETFLIX) [PREMIERES OCTOBER 11TH, 2024]

I love crime dramas - we know this. I especially love crime dramas about profilers. Through the Darkness is a great example of a wonderful and brilliant Kdrama about profilers. I think drama will bring up some great questions about family and morals of protecting family but also duty to the law. I am looking forward to seeing Han Seok Kyu play the role of a father and profiler because I can him acting this role really well. I can see that this drama could have a lot of twists and turns. This will probably be more of a psychological thriller, but it probably will be really dark. I am curious how the chemistry of Han Seok Kyu and Chae Won Bin will be playing father and daughter. This also reminds me of the Taiwanese crime drama The Victim's Game because that main character is also trying to figure out if his daughter is guilty of a crime he is investigating or even just how she is involved. I will be posting a review of that Taiwanese drama on my blog/podcast in October.

Uprising (KMovie) (NETFLIX) [PREMIERES OCTOBER 11TH, 2024]

Something a little difference to add to my plan to watchlist in October. This Korean Movie looks intense. The trailer looks high budget and the story seems to have high stakes. The cast really stands out to me. You have talented actors/actresses in this cast. For some of these actors, I have never seen them in a historical piece of work so, I am curious to see them in historical costume. This story looks bloody, violent and could have quite a sad ending. It is unclear if it is based on a real uprising in history. The fight scenes look insane in this movie. I am hoping it turns out to be a great movie. I really need to watch more movies in general. There is another Korean Movie that came out on Netflix in September called Officer Black Belt that I plan to watch as well. It has been getting some good reviews, especially if you can handle crime/violent movies.

Love in the Big City (Kdrama) [PREMIERES OCTOBER 21ST, 2024]

I did not realize that this was the Kdrama version of the recent movie going by the same name starring Kim Go Eun and Steve Noh that came out at the beginning of September until recently. I have been wanting to watch the movie so, if I get access to the drama first, then I will take it. I will always support dramas/movies that have gay characters in it. I love the poster for this drama. It looks like a beautiful story. The fact that it is also about the friendship of 2 roommates, a man and a woman, also appeals to me because I just love a comfortable friendship in a drama sometimes. I love the aesthetic that the trailer shows. Nam Yoon Su getting hate for starring in this drama just makes me want to watch it more because no actor/actress should be canceled because they are portraying a gay character. I am also curious to see Jin Ho Eun in this role because the only other roles I have seen him do are villains and bullies. It will be a nice change of pace. I am looking forward to their chemistry. It reminds me of The Eighth Sense aesthetic wise and I loved how that drama looked.

Hellbound Season 2 (Kdrama) (NETFLIX) [PREMIERES OCTOBER 25, 2024]

Now, I will be the first to admit, I wasn't the biggest fan of Season 1. I think I went in with too high of expectations. I remember liking the themes that were brought up about society/humans. I also thought the acting was great. I know there have been some changes in the casting of Season 2 as well as new additions to the cast from Season 1. I remember I completed Season 1 and I HAD SO MANY QUESTIONS! That is why I am planning on watching Season 2. I need some of those answers that I wanted in Season 1. I also remember I did not like the structure of the story so, we will have to see if the structure of Season 2 is the same.

I just hope that I have a good drama watching month in October. I know work will be quite stressful for me for the first half of October. Sometimes when that happens, I am not good at watching dramas. I am hoping I can overcome that and still watch dramas. I hope I can finish more than 3 dramas in October. I plan to start The Double in October and finish the drama in October so, I am sure I will be entertained by that Cdrama FOR SURE!
