About a week ago, maybe a little longer, Youku held an event where they talked about A LOT of their upcoming cdramas for the rest of 2024 and 2025. They either announced new cdramas that were never mentioned yet OR provided new content to dramas that had already been announced. Nearly 100 Youku cdramas were updated and/or announced. I wanted to talk about them. I am not going to talk about every single cdrama they talked about at this event in this blogpost because that would be SO MANY DRAMAS! I am just going to talk about the ones that looked interesting to me.
This list will span genres. The format will be I will list the dramas out, introduce them a bit with the title, cast and maybe a little synopsis. Then I will say why I am excited for it. There will be links to the MDL page so you can go and look over these dramas yourselves. I will either have the poster or the trailer in the blogpost for you to check out as well so, you know exactly what drama I am talking about. The dramas I mention are also in no particular order. Not all the dramas got new material in this event, Youku also just gave out all of the titles they plan to make and/or air in the rest of the 2024 and 2025. So, some dramas they just announced their existence, and we don't even know the cast yet. You can find these lists on the internet if you want the entire list.
LET'S LOOK AT SOME NEW YOUKU DRAMAS COMING OUT!!
Director: Wang Wei (Day and Night Season 1, Fearless Whispers)

Synopsis: Not much is known about Season 2's synopsis because Youku just announced that Season is happening and will probably air in 2025. Season 1, which aired in 2017, is about 2 twin brothers. Guang Hong Yu is accused of murder. Guang Hong Feng wants to clear his twin brother's name, but he can't take on the case because he is family and related to the case. The Team Leader who is assigned to the case secretly seeks out his help anyway. A little secret about the twins and why it is called Day and Night, one twin has a phobia of the dark, so the brothers have to switch off working at the police station during the Day and Night. All three of these men work together to figure out a series of "Family extinction murders".
My Thoughts: I CAN'T BELIEVE WE HAVE MOVEMENT OF THIS DRAMA!! I have been waiting since 2017 for a season 2 for this drama. Youku released the first trailer and new posters for Day and Night Season 2. This crime drama is one of the best Chinese crime dramas I have ever seen. It is also probably one of the most successful crime dramas in cdramaland especially before The Bad Kids. Honestly, it has taken so long for this drama to have any movement, I half expected it to never happen. I have not watched Season 1 in 7 years so, I will probably have to rewatch the drama before Season 2 comes out. There are just so many surprises in this drama and makes it very unpredictable TO THE VERY END! It is also tightly written and well executed. I am so excited to see what the story in Season 2 will be because Season 1 definitely needed a Season 2. I hope Season 2 lives up the Season 1.

Synopsis: A fire investigator played by Xu Kai and a detective played by Liu Yi Tie team up to investigate a series of strange fire incidents. Their partnership has tension due to differences, but they learn to work together. They each have strengths that they use to figure out the cases as they tackle them.
My Thoughts: Youku released some new character posters and a new behind the scenes video for this upcoming cdrama. We know I love crime dramas in general. Since I watch a lot of crime dramas, sometimes they can seem like there is the same thing going on with each drama such as they all have serial killers or corruption. SO, when a drama comes along that has a unique concept, it piques my interest. We don't get a lot of crime dramas about fire investigations or crimes that have to do with arsons. That is why Fire Investigator caught my eye. It looks dark and gritty. It looks like MY KIND OF DRAMA! I also don't think I have seen Xu Kai in a crime drama before (I could be wrong).

Synopsis: This is a story of revenge. Liu Xue Yi plays Murong Jing He. He orders the destruction and death of Mei Lin's home and family. Wu Jin Yan plays Mei Lin. She wants revenge of his character for her family and destruction of her home. She becomes an assassin to hunt him down. She falls into the hands of Murong Jing He and this begins their relationship. Who will survive in the end?
My Thoughts: Youku released a new trailer for this cdrama at the event. I am a HUGE fan of both the leads in this drama. So, it piqued my interest IMMEDIATELY when it was first announced. Lin Xue Yi's character seems really twisted and crazy so, I am very curious what will happen in this drama. I am sure he is going to be somewhat toxic but sometimes that is very entertaining. I have never seen him do this kind of role. Wu Jin Yan studied ballet when she was young and even went to school to become a ballerina. So, I am excited to see her in these fight scenes. I love them both as actors so, I am looking forward to seeing them act next to each other. The acting in the trailer from the both of them looks AMAZING!

Synopsis: A human emperor reincarnates as Zhao Ming played by Vin Zhang. The emperors beloved Hun Dhun Zhu reincarnated him, and she is played by Sun Zhen Ni. She is reincarnated as Mu Xuan Ling who is the holy maiden of the dark domain. These 2 reunite in the mortal world, having forgotten their past and are adversaries. She at one point saves his live and they end up traveling together. As they travel together, they start to fall in love with each other. This starts off a journey of good versus evil, forbidden love, reincarnation and love that lasts through lifetimes.
My Thoughts: Youku released a new trailer for this cdrama at the event. I have been excited for this drama since it was announced. After watching Till the End of the moon, I have become a HUGE fan of Sun Zhen Ni so, I was excited to see her getting more lead roles. She was an excellent fox demon in Till the End of the Moon. She has a similar character, at least personality wise, so, I think she will be a lot of fun to watch in this drama as well. I am curious about their chemistry together. I know Vin Zhang does well playing evil characters as well so, if one of his reincarnated lives is an evil character, I am here for that as well. One of my favorite genres is Xianxia so, I am always excited for a new Xianxia drama.

My Thoughts: Youku release a new short of the leads in costume interacting behind the scenes. There is no official English title for this drama, and I don't know much about this drama. They are still filming this drama I think so, I am sure we will get more information eventually. This is a poster that was released a while ago for the drama. All I know is that Sun Zhen Ni plays a goddess and Li Hong Yi plays a demon lord. Is that 100% confirmed? No because there is no official synopsis yet. I just found that little piece of information on the internet. The main reason I am excited for this is OF COURSE Sun Zhen Ni. It is for the same reason I stated in The Blossoming Love above. I am happy to see her getting more main roles. I loved her already in 1 Xianxia drama so, I am excited to watch her in more Xianxia dramas.

She joins their caravan because she plans to get into the business of jewelry. However, she becomes embroiled in Yan Zi Jing's quest for revenge. She loses everything and becomes So Mu Zhe. With this new name, she seeks the truth and teams up with these two men again. All the while pursuing the business of jewelry, will they unravel the mystery and find the truth behind the tragedy in their lives. Will Duan Yu take control of her destiny?
My Thoughts: Youku released a new poster for this drama. I am a fan of both Zhao Lu Si and Liu Yu Ning. We know everyone thought they had great chemistry in The Long Ballad. Here they team up again which I am sure everyone is excited for. People have been waiting a long time for this one. Both of them really get into their roles. This one is rumored for 2024 so, hopefully we get it before the year ends. The trailer that was released for this a while ago looks intense and looks like my kind of drama. I think this poster is cool as well. Since Zhao Lu Si is playing dual roles in this drama, it is only fitting that the poster reflects that.

Synopsis: There is an assassin organization made up of three families. The three elders of these families are poisoned. Since the leaders become sick, different members of the families take the opportunity to launch a rebellion. Su Mu Yu played by Gong Jun is the leader of the Mu Family guard. He teams up with the divine healer Bai He Huai played by Yang Yu Tong as well as other members of the assassin families to treat the grand elders. They do this all while fending off attacks from other assassins and investigate what happened to the elders.
My Thoughts: Youku released a new poster for this drama. Apparently, this drama is connected to the Blood of Youth franchise which I just learned. I have not watched either The Blood of Youth or Dashing Youth, SO, I GUESS I NEED TO GET ON THAT! They are still filming this drama so; it will be a bit before we see this one. This drama is about investigating a crime. This drama has assassins. I mean who doesn't love a drama about assassins!? This poster is GORGEOUS! I just keep looking at it. I hope this drama is as dark as the poster gives off. I would love that even more. I haven't watched a Wuxia drama in a while and I need to fix that. I am always a fan of a good Wuxia drama.

Synopsis: A mystery has taken place as the QingMing market. It has caused a butterfly effect and has started a series of murder cases that effect the entire area and world. There is a conspiracy involved and intertwined in the lives of everyone involved.
My Thoughts: Youku released some new character posters for this drama. From what we know about this drama, this drama is based off of a famous scroll painting in China. The author of the novel that this drama loved the painting and wrote a novel based on what was seen in the painting. Apparently, the author looked over a copy of the painting and noticed some things were off so that is where the idea of a mystery thriller plot came about. From the trailer we got this year, this drama is a little about the creation of this painting but also has some mysteries wrapped into the story. You can actually google and see what the painting looks like. Apparently, the drama built their entire set for the most part to match the painting, so, we will be seeing a lot of new sets in this drama as well. I have also heard that if you liked The Longest Day in Chang'An, you will probably like this drama. The first trailer, posters and stills we are seeing from this drama point to a high budget and beautifully shot drama in my opinion. I am SUPER excited to watch this drama, and I hope we learn more about what exactly the story will be about soon.

Synopsis: Tan Song Yun plays Ji Ying Ying whose family works in the dye industry. She has a childhood sweetheart, but he is pressured to marry someone else. She then meets Yang Jing Yuan played by Zheng Ye Cheng. He falls in love with her at first sight, but she doesn't like him. They later become friends and slowly feelings grow between them. Disaster strikes where Ji Ying Ying's family's secret dye recipe is stolen. People also attack the town and take Ji Ying Ying away. Yang Jing Yuan has to lead an army to protect his homeland and get Ji Ying Ying back.
My Thoughts: Youku released this poster of Tan Song Yun as her character at the event. I don't know much about this drama. The poster was the first official thing released except we got some drama stills as well. We didn't even have this synopsis until recently either. I was first drawn to this drama because of the two leads. I love Tan Song Yun and I am curious with her pairing of Zheng Ye Cheng. This drama sounds like a mix of topics. We got a business drama; with the dye but also a family-oriented drama. It is a historical which is also always a favorite setting of mine with cdramas. This drama has a lot going for it and I can't wait to see its first trailer when it comes out.

Synopsis: Rayzha Alimjan plays Chu Shao Hua who came from a family of traditional Chinese medicine during the early years of the Republic of China. She meets 3 men who shape her life and journey in this time period. She is an entrepreneur and businesswoman. She experiences the ups and downs of trying to be a businesswoman in this time period but also just in a male dominated field and society. A time period that is rapidly changing and affected by history as well.
My Thoughts: Youku released a new character poster of Rayzha Alimjan and trailer for this drama at the event. I did not know this drama existed until I watched the trailer. I like a lot of the cast, and I have not seen Rayzha Alimjan in a drama in a while. I am curious if any romance will happen and with whom. I also love a good historical centered around medicine as well, even though she is not a doctor but a businesswoman. I have always loved a good historical medical cdrama. Chinese dramas that are women centered and have a story that shows the main character fighting against society to come out on top will always interest me. The trailer looks like it is beautifully shot. It might a little bit too much propaganda behind the story, but I am also just curious enough about the women centered drama to check it out. If the story can get me to root for Rayzha Alimjan's character the entire drama, I will like it and watch it.

My Thoughts: Youku released this new poster for the drama during this event. Ever since I watched Hu Xian Xu in Hikaru No Go, which is one of my favorite Chinese dramas OF ALL TIME, I have loved him as an actor. To me, he has had a very interesting and unique filmography since that drama. He did Pegasus from this year which I still need to watch. I LOVED the movie version. I did not even know this drama existed until the new poster was released. There is a possibility that this drama will show up by the end of 2024. I am always interested in a unique concept for a crime drama that isn't just another serial killer going around and killing people. This story fits that and seems unique to me. I have not watched the rest of the cast in anything but I know of them and I know they have a few others dramas that are loved by other people who have seen them. They are on my list.

My Thoughts: Youku released this new poster for the drama during this event. There is not much known about this drama. We don't even have an official synopsis. I did not even know this drama existed until Youku released this new poster. All I know is that it is a Republican era spy drama. You might be asking "Caitlin, why are you interested in this drama then?" I am interested in this drama because Zhang Yi Shan is in the cast. He is the type of actor where if you give him a good script and story, he excels in the acting department. He has a unique resume, and I like those type of actors who are not cookie cutter actors. The genre that he excels in, in my opinion, is crime and republican era spy dramas. He suits the republican era very well! In my opinion, Elvis Han and Zhang Tian Ai also suit the Republican Era very well when they are in costume. This is just a cast that I never imagined together in a drama which makes me curious about it.

During this process, they fall in love and live three lives within the fairy palace, demonic realm and the human world.
My Thoughts: Youku released this new trailer for the drama during this event. I did not expect as much comedy in it as there was in the first trailer. It is mixed with angst as well. This is only Chen Fei Yu's 6th drama which is CRAZY to me! The first trailer looks good. The CGI looks good as well. I am mainly here for Chen Fei Yu because I think he is a strong actor with the right story and script. Xianxia is one of my favorite genres so, I will always add a new Xianxia to my plan to watch list.

Synopsis: Xiao Zhan plays Zang Hai. Zang Hai was originally Zhi Nu who was the son of Kuai Duo, the imperial astronomer of Da Yong. His entire family gets wiped out. Zhi Nu changed his name to Zang Hai. He studies architecture and political strategy. He returned to the capital to meet the person who killed his family. He takes on many difficult problems for this person. He eventually became the new Imperial Astronomer and meticulously planned the downfall of Marquis Ping Jin and the other people who were responsible for the murder of his family. He also gets involved in protecting the country and its people from war as well as other problems.
My Thoughts: Youku did not release any new materials for this drama during the event, but I still wanted to talk about this drama. I learned some new information about this drama that I thought would be interesting to other people. I know a lot of people are waiting for this drama and even without new material that was put out, it is still one of Youku's topmost anticipated dramas. This drama was on the list of all of the titles Youku plans to make and/or air in the rest of the 2024 and 2025 that they released during this event. I recently learned that this drama is a part of the Lost Tomb Series. I don't know why I did not recognize this before given THE NAME but here we are. Now if you are not familiar with The Lost Tomb Franchise, Zang Hai is a Historical character mentioned throughout the series. He is responsible for building some of the famous tombs in the series such as the Paracel Underwater Tomb and the heavenly Palace. His tombs are known to have many puzzles and deadly traps. In The Lost Tomb 2, it was revealed that he was forced to build the Heavenly Palace by being imprisoned in it for over 10 years even though the tomb at the top of the palace was already there before Zang Hai came to the mountain to build the Heavenly Palace. It is unclear if we will see Xiao Zhan's character actually build these tombs or anything but that is why it is connected to the Lost Tomb Series.

Shawn Dou plays Yuan Shao Cheng who is a lowly-born magistrate who craves power seized this opportunity to rise and gain power. Is she really a murderer or is she an innocent scapegoat?
My Thoughts: Youku did not release any new materials for this drama during the event, but this is the first time I am hearing about this drama. So, I want to talk about in case other people might not know about this drama. This drama was on the list of all of the titles Youku plans to make and/or air in the rest of the 2024 and 2025 that they released during this event. I am always down for a historical mystery cdrama. I also love historical cdramas that are centered around being a doctor. We need more of them in my opinion. So, I am already excited for this drama due to the synopsis. I also LOVE a lot of the cast so, that is even more of a reason to look forward to this drama.

So, I want to talk about in case other people might not know about this drama. This drama was on the list of all of the titles Youku plans to make and/or air in the rest of the 2024 and 2025 that they released during this event. What immediately drew me to this drama were the screenwriters. THEY ARE AMAZING so; I will watch their dramas ANYTIME! No one has been announced officially for this cast yet as far as I know. The synopsis is giving me an idea of a romance maybe. It is giving Wuxia maybe? It could also be Xianxia though. Either way, those are two genres I LOVE! I am so curious who will be a part of this cast.

My Thoughts: Youku did not release any new materials for this drama during the event, but this is the first time I am hearing about this drama. So, I want to talk about in case other people might not know about this drama. This drama was on the list of all of the titles Youku plans to make and/or air in the rest of the 2024 and 2025 that they released during this event. The reason I am curious about this drama is the director. HE HAS DONE EVERYTHING! The synopsis also seems like something I would love. We got a little time travel. We got a little demon hunting. We got revenge. We got a mystery possibly. A lot of things that I would be interested in for the story of a drama. I am so curious who will be a part of this cast.

My Thoughts: Youku during the event announced that this drama exists and that Cheng Yi is set to lead the drama. Not much else is known about this drama. This drama was on the list of all of the titles Youku plans to make and/or air in the rest of the 2024 and 2025 that they released during this event. The only thing that we know is that Cheng Yi will be in this drama. We also know that this is a historical suspense drama. We ALL KNOW Cheng Yi looks very good in historical costumes. So, I will watch him in anything where he is wearing historical costumes. This genre also is something I would be interested in.

Synopsis: After being reborn in ancient times before the Great God-Conferment War, Li Chang Shou becomes a minor cultivator. He only wishes to live a long life as a cultivator. He avoids danger and trains himself in escape techniques, poisons and master his mystical abilities. He analyzes his every move. He plans to just live his life out on the mountain, cultivating. Then his master decides that their lives are too quiet, and they take in a junior sister. What will happen to his quiet life now?
My Thoughts: Youku released this poster during the event. Youku during the event announced that this drama exists and confirmed that Ao Rui Peng and Sun Zhen Ni are set to lead the drama. This drama was on the list of all of the titles Youku plans to make and/or air in the rest of the 2024 and 2025 that they released during this event. I have said this before and I will say this again, anything Sun Zhen Ni is attached too, I will be excited about. I LOVED her in Till the End of the Moon and I am glad she is getting lead roles now. This also seems like it will either be Wuxia or Xianxia, again two genres I will always look forward to watching. I am excited to learn more about this drama as we get more information and promo about it.

My Thoughts: Youku released this new poster during the event. This drama was on the list of all of the titles Youku plans to make and/or air in the rest of the 2024 and 2025 that they released during this event. No one is confirmed for the cast yet that I can find. Not much is known about this drama. There has been a rumored Season 2 of The Mystic Nine for quite some time now. I am a HUGE fan of The Lost Tomb Series so, I will always take more sequels, spinoffs and anything else that has to do with this franchise. I still have not watched every single drama and movie in this franchise as it is. I will be curious to hear more about the story and cast of this drama when we get more announcements.
