MY WATCHLIST - OCTOBER 2024

This might seem like this is coming really soon after the September Watchlist and you wouldn't be wrong in thinking that. I released the September Watchlist a little later in the month than I usually do. I try to release my watchlist blogposts/podcast episodes in the middle of the month. Especially since I do the monthly Wrap-Up episodes as well. I don't want to release a watchlist and then immediately that next week, I release the Month's end of the month wrap-up blogpost. That just seems too close together and not enough time between the two.

October is shaping up to be a good drama watching month for me. I already finished some dramas and added some new ones into the mix. So, there have been some definite changes to the watchlist since my September Watchlist blogpost. Also, October seems to be the month where ALL OF THE CDRAMAS ARE DROPPING! I am trying not to add any of them to my current watchlist because it is already full, and we all know I don't watch cdramas as they air BUT MAN THE TEMPTATION IS WILD!

KDRAMAS

The Judge from Hell - I am all caught up on this Kdrama and I think that was a mistake 😂. I now have to wait for more episodes and that is going to be hard for me with this drama. I LOVE IT SO MUCH! I love the will they, won't they brewing romance with the 2 leads. Park Shin Hye is delicious, playing a demon and a villain in this. Her chemistry with Kim Jae Young is so fun to watch. This is a drama that will not be everyone's cup of tea because it is EXTREMELY violent and dark. We are over halfway done with this drama and I am really curious how they will end this drama. This is about the time in the drama where our romantic leads would have their first kiss or date or something and right now - we have not had any of that even though it is VERY CLEAR there are feelings there. So, I am curious if this drama will have a happy or sad ending and how that will come about. I can see it going either way. This is definitely one of my favorite things I am watching right now.

Iron Family - This is the new weekender I was waiting for. The reason why I finished Bad Thief, Good Thief before starting this new weekender. It is a shorter weekender, only 36 episodes) while other weekenders are normally 50 episodes. I have had some questions of what a weekender is. A Weekender is a Kdrama that airs on the weekend (Saturday and Sunday) and has 50 episodes of an hour in length. So, a long running kdrama that usually centers around family and has multiple couples in it. The whole entire reason I am watching this drama is because Kim Jung Hyun is in it. I haven't watch him in a drama in a while and this is his first weekender he has ever done. I also was pleasantly surprised to see other great actors/actresses in this drama like Choi Tae Joon along with some veteran actors/actresses playing the older generations. I am watching this drama slowly and I am already behind. I have only watched the first episode, but it is a nice set up so far. I can tell this drama is going to have ALL OF THE EMOTIONS just with how the drama sets itself up.

What Comes After Love - THE ANGST IN THIS IS KILLING ME!! I have watched the first 2 episodes. I am actually enjoying the parts of the drama when they are in the present and reunited in Korea over the parts, they are happy in Japan. Which is surprising because at the same time - THE ANGST IS REAL AND ANGONIZING! I actually have not watched episodes 3 and 4 because of things I have seen on social media. I am debating if I just wait for this drama to end and binge the last 4 episodes. I don't necessarily need a happy ending but it needs to make sense and be good. I like the chemistry between the two leads: Lee Se Young and Sakaguchi Kentaro. I am glad people are discovering Sakaguchi Kentaro through this drama. He is a fantastic actor. I will say I don't see the 2 leads getting together at the end of this. They might just reconcile and go their separate ways. They might also not reconcile and just go their separate ways. At this point, I don't see how this drama will have a happy, they are together, ending. OR this drama is going to have an open ending, and people can imagine their happy ending.

KVARIETY

Road to Kingdom: Ace to Ace - Mnet did us dirty and only released the first episode with subs on their YouTube for international fans. So, I have only watched the first episode of this show. I am a couple of episodes behind on this show because of Mnet doing that but also trying to find another way to watch this. LUCKILY, I have found another way. I just have not watched the next episodes yet. I might wait until this show is done and just binge it all. What is good is that not a lot of people I know are watching this show so, I have not seen any spoilers. I don't plan on dropping it though because I now have a way to watch it all. We will have to wait and see. Right now, I can only watch up to the 3rd episode so, I will still be behind because I think the 4th episode just aired this past week. I enjoyed the first episode a lot and I want to continue. I mean I also plan on doing a podcast episode on this show as well so, I have to finish it right? 😂

CDRAMAS

The Double - I am halfway through this drama. Yes, I am FINALLY watching The Double. Not surprising to anyone, I am really enjoying it. I mean I have practically binged the first 20 or so episodes in the past 2 weeks or so. We know I am not a binger so, that tells you how much I am enjoying this drama. I love that the female lead is smart, and I love that the male lead allows her to be smart and is actually proud when she shows off. The revenge part of this drama will be SO SATISFYING when it happens for me because there are truly some despicable characters in this drama. I am really curious with 20 episodes to go how that will all play out. I will say the two leads have great chemistry, and their romance is truly a SLOW BURN in this drama. I hope in the second half of this drama, we see their romance fully become what I want it to be. I can see why this is one of the top cdramas of 2024. It will probably be in my top non-Korean dramas from this year as well.

Ashes of Love - I have only watched the first episode of this drama so, I am SUPER early on this drama. I have never seen this Xianxia drama. For one, I am not the biggest fan of Yang Zi so, I sort of avoided this drama for that reason. I am watching this for a podcast review and right now, I don't know about this drama. I knew going into this drama that I would not be a fan of Yang Zi in this drama as this character and I was right. I do not like her in the first episode. So, I hope her character grows on me as I watch more but man, she was annoying for me. I do love the Xianxia genre so, that is a plus for this drama as well. I also love some of the supporting cast like Luo Yun Xi and I heard he is AMAZING in terms of acting in this drama. We will have to see how this plays out. This might be the first podcast episode review where I disagree with the majority. 😂

Strange Tales of Tang Dynasty Season 1 - I have not made any more progress with this drama. Due to upcoming podcast episode recordings, other things have taken priority. I don't plan to drop it though. I still want to watch both seasons. I also enjoyed the first couple of episodes I have watched. It is also October so; it is the perfect time to watch this drama FOR SURE!

JDRAMAS

Alice in Borderland Season 1 - This is another drama that I have made no progress on. I still have only watched the first episode. This is for 2 reasons. One, I know what is coming in Season 1 so, I am sort of avoiding it. Which is crazy because October is the perfect time to watch this drama! Second is the same reason why I have not watched more of Strange Tales of Tang Dynasty Season 1. Other dramas have taken priority due to podcast recordings coming up. I am hoping I can binge this season and season 2 before the month is done but we will have to see how that goes. I, at least, want to get Season 1 done by the end of October.

ANIME

Apothecary Diaries Season 1 - I am ALMOST done with this anime. I have about 10 episodes to go. I plan to finish it before October is done. I LOVE THIS ANIME SO MUCH! Not surprising to anyone that I am loving this anime due to the genre and the story. I mean If this story was a cdrama, I would also be eating it up. I am not surprised AT ALL that this anime is getting a Season 2. I love the main girl so much from her reactions to how smart she is. I like the support characters as well who are around our two leads and helping them. I wonder what twists this anime will throw in in the last 10 episodes of this anime. I honestly don't think this anime needs a romance, at least right now, but I could see one happening in the future or even Season 2.

SOME DRAMAS I PLAN TO ADD TO MY CURRENT WATCHLIST SOON

I have been making some good progress on dramas and other things I am watching in the last couple of weeks. Let's hope that continues.
