It feels weird that I am typing this out, but this is the first "MY WATCHLIST" blogpost/podcast episode of 2025. I feel like January has been going by SO QUICKLY but also not quickly at all on a day-by-day basis. Anyways, we are here to talk about what I am currently watching and my thoughts on them.
I think I have kept up the strategy that I was doing in November and December into this month. I tried to really continue to get things off my current watchlist and start January off with as much of a clean slate as possible. Whether that means I complete the drama or drop it. Due to this strategy still going on, I really am not watching a ton of things. Also, every new Kdrama that I planned to click play on in January, pretty much does not start until the second half of January. So, this watchlist will have a lot of new dramas added to it later in January and into February.
Given the fact that most of my airing Kdramas don't start until the second half of January, this explains why there are a lot of anime on my current watchlist right now. Anime is easy to watch because one episode is about 23-25 minutes long. It is also hard to not just click play on every anime I see but that is normal for me with dramas as well. I have a low number of things I am currently watching because I know my watchlist will have more stuff on it from the coming weeks. It will be interesting to see what I complete in the rest of January and what I am watching once the next "MY WATCHLIST" blogpost comes around. I STILL CAN'T BELIEVE IT IS THE MIDDLE OF JANUARY ALREADY!
KDRAMAS
When the Phone Rings - Yes - I KNOW! I am still watching this Kdrama. I have 2 episodes left. I think being spoiled HEAVILY on this drama has made me watch it slower. I mean I know pretty much everything that has happened. So, I may be avoiding it a BUT I don't want to hate the last 2 episodes, and I am afraid I will. I do plan on finishing it tonight or tomorrow so, it will be off my current watchlist very soon. I have LOTS OF THOUGHTS on this Kdrama. I have loved it, and it was my obsession along with a lot of other people in November and December. I definitely think that even though I love crazy stories and makjang shows - the ending will affect my rating of this drama. Maybe it won't (maybe) but we will just have to wait and see what happens when I complete it this weekend.
KVARIETY
Please Take Care of My Refrigerator Season 2 - I AM SO HAPPY THIS SHOW IS BACK!! I have not watched it in YEARS! I forgot how funny the hosts were. I have watched the first episode of this show, and I was laughing the entire time. I also forgot how little time the chefs get to cook in this. So, if you have never seen this show and don't know what it is. This is a Korean Variety show where 2 celebrities bring their fridges from home onto the set. The panel of chefs have to use only the ingredients in their celebrity fridges and cook a dish within 15 mins. The panel of chefs, guests and hosts all taste the dishes and the guests choose who wins the round. it is a lot of fun and they have some talented chefs on the show. What is fun about this reboot is they brought all of the old chefs back along with the hosts BUT they also added chefs from Culinary Class Wars on the show! So, it is a lot of fun seeing them compete again. I have only watched the first episode so; I am curious who the guests might be who come onto the show.
CDRAMAS
Strange Tales of Tang Dynasty Season 1 - YES - I AM STILL WATCHING THIS CDRAMA! One of my new year's resolutions is to only be watching 1 completed drama at a time. I am trying to whittle my current watchlist down enough aka finish When the Phone Rings to have this be my only completed drama on my current watchlist. I also plan on starting it over because I am only on episode 2 and this cdrama has been on the backburner for a while so, I barely remember the case that was introduced. Hopefully I can finish this by my next "MY WATCHLIST" blogpost and get it off of the list. Again, I do remember enjoying what I had watched so far. This is one of the dramas I brought over from 2024, and I have been watching it for WAY TO LONG at this point.
ANIME
These are all of the new anime I started in January. There is more in January I plan to start as well. I am watching these as they air so, I will be watching all of these for at least a couple months if not longer depending on the number of episodes they have.
Ameku M.D.: Doctor Detective - THIS ANIME IS RIGHT UP MY ALLEY! It makes me wish it was a Jdrama as well or makes me want to seek out a quirky crime Jdrama every time I watch it. I have watched 3 episodes of this anime so far. It is about a woman who is a doctor and she works for a very special department in the hospital. Her department investigates these crazy diseases/injuries that come through the doors of the hospital. it is part medical anime and part crime/investigation anime. CLEARLY something I would like. She is quirky and weird and gets excited about puzzles and mysteries to figure out. This anime is very Sherlock Holmes coded which is popular in Japan. She is clearly Sherlock and Her male doctor sidekick is clearly Watson. She even has a sister who is clearly Mycroft (the older brother of Sherlock Holmes). The cases have been quite interesting so far so, I am curious where this one will go.
My Happy Marriage Season 2 - IT IS BACK!! I sort of wish I had waited to binge this, but I got too excited. We already know there is going to be drama as well because Kiyoka's family is already stirring up trouble. Hopefully if we are getting a Season 2 of the anime, it means we will be getting a second movie eventually as well. I have only watched the first episode, and I have not read any of the manga or anything so, I don't know what is going to happen. There are some mysteries already stirring with the powers and fantasy aspect of this anime. I am sure we are going to see Kiyoka and Miyo get closer. We obviously will learn more about Kiyoka and his family since they are currently at his family's house. There really is a lot we don't know about him so far from the anime and I am sure there is more the learn about Miyo as well. Hopefully we get introduced to more powers and people too. I just hope it is just as enjoyable as Season 1 was.
Solo Leveling Season 2: Arise from the Shadow - I AM SO HAPPY I BINGED THIS BEFORE 2024 ENDED! I have only watched the first episode of this anime BUT MAN IT DID NOT DISAPPOINT! You can tell this second season is just going to go bigger. I am sad I was spoiled a bit on the first couple of episodes due to that special movie that was released but hey at least I have not been spoiled on the entire thing. Also, Jin Woo has a glow up FOR SURE! I am curious what more he will discover about his powers and the world that he is in. I have not read the manhwa or anything so, I don't know what is coming but I heard it gets crazy.
Zenshu - I clicked play on this because I was curious. THE ANIMATION STYLE IS SO PRETTY! I am still confused if the main girl is dead or was transported into something. So, it will be interesting to see that unfold. I love the animation when she starts to draw, and her art comes to life. The battle scenes are fun to watch and beautiful to look at. I think this anime will be really unique and I can't wait to see where it goes.
