MAY 2024 WRAP UP

The next couple of months are going to be quite interesting. At least in June and July, I am not interested in a lot of the new Korean dramas that have been announced. So, I probably will be watching a lot of dramas and shows from other countries. I know I even have some American shows I want to watch in June. So, I am going to be ALL OVER THE PLACE when it comes to dramas in the next couple of months.

DRAMAS/MOVIES I COMPLETED IN MAY

Even though May was quite busy for me, I still managed to complete a fair number of dramas. I did not finish as many dramas as April, but I still did decently well. While I finished mostly Korean dramas this month, I did squeeze some other dramas/shows that I normally don't watch so, that was a nice change. I like to keep you guys on your toes occasionally.

The 8 Show (Kdrama) (NETFLIX): I still don't quite know if I liked Squid Game more than this drama. I am really trying not to compare this to Squid Game because there are a lot of survival game Asian Dramas out there and there are quite a few differences between the 2 dramas. I thought this was well acted. It had a slow beginning, but I think that worked for the drama because the characters were slowly getting crazier and crazier as the drama went on. The comedy did not work for me. I had a lot of secondhand embarrassment with this drama especially with one particular character. It also drove me nuts that certain things did not happen in the plot because it seemed like a logical move in the game to me and the characters never did it. I did like that one of the rules in the game was that no one could die BUT that does not mean that this drama was not violent. It still was but it just took longer in the plot to get there because the characters had to descend into madness and become desperate. There is also a lot of tension which was uncomfortable for me because you knew someone was going to explode eventually; you just didn't know who or when.

RATING: 8.5/10

Love of Replica (Cdrama) (VIKI): I thought Mysterious Love was a solid cdrama. It is the worst Chinese drama I had ever watched but it could have been better. The best part of that drama was the chemistry of the two main leads. Since Love of replica was marketed as Mysterious Love Season 2 and it is the same 2 leads, I thought Love of replica would at least have the chemistry I loved. It turns out that Love of Replica was a missed opportunity. There was just something missing in Love of Replica. I did not like either one of the romances in this Chinese drama. I would recommend to just watch Mysterious Love because it had the better chemistry. Both dramas are over the top and don't have the biggest budget ever, but Mysterious Love has the better chemistry.

RATING: 7/10

Stranger Season 2 (Kdrama) (NETFLIX): This was another rewatch of one of my favorite Korean dramas of all time. I still liked Season 1 more than Season 2 but since I rewatched Season 2 for the first time in the past month, I grew to like Season 2 more over all as well. Just like Season 1of Stranger, I am very bias with this Korean drama. It is one of my favorites for a reason. I loved our duo still. I loved watching the bad guys go down in flames as always. If you have not watch either of the seasons of Stranger, YOU SHOULD! Just know, you will have to pay close attention because it is complicated and throws a lot at you. RATING: 9.5/10

Hide (Kdrama) (VIKI): If you are a fan of thriller Asian dramas, this is a solid one for you to try. It was lots of twists and turns that were satisfying. I did want more from the ending though. It was satisfying but I wanted it extended to show more. I also had some unanswered questions still by the time this drama ended. It was still entertaining and had GREAT ACTING!

RATING: 8/10

The Midnight Studio (Kdrama) (VIKI): This is a solid ghost romance, but I have also seen better Korean ones. The main couple's chemistry was good at times and other times it just was not working. The second couple was cute, but I did not like their ending at all. It made no sense. The acting was good and was a highlight for me. I LOVED the OSTs. I also loved the ghost stories and finding them out as the main leads unraveled the stories themselves. this drama made me CRY SO MUCH!

RATING: 8/10

Blood Free (Kdrama) (HULU): I enjoyed this drama. I thought it was unique, but it also wasn't perfect. THE CHEMISTRY BETWEEN THE LEADS WAS SO GOOD!! It is one of the few times I WISHED there was romance in the drama. Just to clarify, there is no romance in this kdrama so, if you are looking for romance, you will not find it here. The motives of the 3 villains were not defined well. I did not quite understand all their motives and if I did understand the why, I thought the motives were weak. The pacing of the last episode was OFF. IT DEFINITELY NEEDS A SEASON 2! I need to know what happens next. It is still a SOLID sci-fi Kdrama which we don't get often in Asian dramaland.

RATING: 8.5/10

Prime Suspect: Tennison (British Show) (AMAZON PRIME): My parents watch A LOT of British Television so, any time I am at their place for any period of time, I am constantly watching British tv. I grew up watching British tv so, I love British tv as well. This is a prequel miniseries for an older British tv series called Prime Suspect starring Helen Mirren that ran from the mid-1990s to the mid-2000s. Prime Suspect: Tennison only ran for 6 episodes and only had 1 season. I watched all 6 episodes while I was home in the month of May. I was a big fan of the original series so I liked Prime Suspect: Tennison but I will admit it did not hold a torch to Helen Mirren and the original. I don't think it had enough episodes to really bring depth to the characters like the original series. It was fun to revisit the characters and see them when they were younger though. The crime case in the series was good too.

RATING: 7/10

Heeramandi (Indian Drama) (NETFLIX): If you are into Asian dramas that are centered around women or just enjoy watching drama with powerful women in it, you should give this Indian drama a try. It has BEAUTIFUL sets and costumes. It is set in a time period that I found quite interesting and helped a lot in making beautiful sets and costumes. I did not care one bit about the main romance in the drama and I wish it never was part of the drama. I cared more about the history, politics and rivalries within Heeramandi and the women of Heeramandi more. The women of Heeramandi and their relationships were what interested me. I wanted to know more about them. I wanted to know more about the time period and what was going on in India at that time. The dance sequences and singing were also beautiful in the drama as well as the OSTs.

RATING: 8/10

DRAMAS I DROPPED IN MAY

Nothing Uncovered (Kdrama) (VIKI): I got spoiled on the ending. I was REALLY bias towards the cop in the story and hated the husband. So, when I saw that the husband sort of got a happy ending - I was NOT HAPPY. It just wasn't my ideal ending. I also disliked the female lead. The female lead was marketed as a strong women reporter, but she just wasn't that. She made some stupid decisions that she should not have made if she was this badass reporter. I decided to drop it because I was behind by like 6 episodes and just did not see the point to finish. I am REALLY sad I dropped this because it was my most anticipated Kdrama for March.

The Escape of the Seven: Resurrection (Kdrama) (VIKI): I fell really far behind on this drama. I had like 10 episodes to watch to finish it. I was only watching Season 2 because I had watched Season 1. I only cared for 1 to 2 episodes so, I didn't see the point of catching up and finishing the drama.

NEW JUNE 2024 DRAMAS I AM EXCITED FOR:

It has been a LONG time since I have only been interested in 1 or 2 on air dramas in the upcoming month. I am excited about this though. Hopefully this means I can get stuff off my current watchlist. This also means I can fill the gaps with dramas that I have not had a chance to watch and is a part of my never-ending Plan to Watch List. HOPEFULLY THIS MEANS I CAN DO MORE REVIEW EPISODES FOR THE PODCAST AND BLOG IN THE FUTURE! Does this mean I could be watching all Cdramas at some point in the future?

The Player 2: Master of Swindlers (Kdrama) (VIKI) [PREMIERES JUNE 3RD, 2024]

I LOVED SEASON 1 OF THE PLAYER! I never expected we were going to get a season 2 for this drama BUT HERE WE ARE! I am sad that Season 1 is nowhere on legal streaming sites, or I would rewatch it before Season 2 starts. I will just have to make do. I am excited to revisit these characters and see what shenanigans they get up to in this season. I know some actors/actresses have been replaced from Season 1 or are even new for Season 2. I hope there is still a good combo of crime and comedy like there was in Season 1. I also hope there is still a good found family in Season 2 which we all know if my favorite trope of ALL TIME!

Bridgerton Season 3 (American Show) (NETFLIX) [PREMIERES JUNE 13TH, 2024]

I decided to wait and watch all the episodes of Season 3 in June when all the episodes are out. I also still need to watch the Queen Charlotte Season before I watch Season 3. So, I technically have 2 seasons of Bridgerton to Watch in June. I still am surprised I have watched the first 2 seasons of Bridgerton and liked them. If you have not heard the story, my friend made me sit down and watch Season 1 when I was visiting. I became hooked and immediately went home and watched Season 2. I honestly don't know why I am so surprised I like Bridgerton. As I said above, I grew up watching British tv and this included Jane Austen and all those adaptions. I LOVED Pride and Prejudice growing up. So, this type of show should be something I love. My favorite Season so far is Season 2. I am curious to see what I think of Season 3 and who Season 4 will be about.

Agents of Mystery (KVariety) (NETFLIX) [PREMIERES JUNE 18TH, 2024]

I have a bunch of these variety shows where people investigate crimes and/or puzzles on my plan to watch list. Agents of Mystery is just the newest one to be added to that list. I like some of the people who are a part of the cast for this KVariety show. I also love a good investigative/crime KVariety show where they are figuring out crimes/puzzles. I love playing along and trying to solve it myself. I also love seeing who is good at these types of games and seeing their personalities come out.

The Victim's Game Season 2 (Tdrama) (NETFLIX) [PREMIERES JUNE 21ST, 2024]

I don't know how many times I have mentioned Season 1 of The Victim's Game over the years. I mean I have been waiting for 4 years for Season 2 AND WE ARE FINALLY GETTING IT IN JUNE 2024! I plan to rewatch Season 1 before watching Season 2 because I need a refresher. I am excited to revisit this world and be with these characters again. I am looking forward continuing the mystery and learning more of what happened. MAYBE I WILL JUST WATCH ALL TAIWANESE DRAMAS IN JUNE! Who knows!?

I honestly think this is the lowest number of dramas I am looking forward to for the upcoming month in A WHILE! I am sure I will find other dramas and shows to fill up my plate. I am sort of excited to explore that and see what I find. I know there are a TON of Chinese dramas that I want to watch, and I want to check out. I am also just excited that it will be a mix of dramas from all different countries. I always like when I have a lot of variety on my current watchlist.
