We all know that Crime dramas are my thing! I love for thriller dramas and dramas where it is a HUGE cat and mouse game for the entire drama! So, I was very excited to hear about Manner of Death. You never seen a BL (Boys Love) drama that also is a crime investigation drama. SO, YOU KNOW I HAD TO CHECK IT OUT!
As I have said with every other "FIRST IMPRESSIONS" post, I will be doing a final review once I am done with the drama. This post will cover my first initial thoughts of the drama. If my thoughts and opinions change by the end of the drama, that will be reflected in my final review. I don't think my opinions of the drama will change much BUT YOU NEVER KNOW! I am loving this drama FOR SO MANY REASONS!
A QUICK SYNOPSIS OF MANNER OF DEATH - Dr. Bunnakit is a medical examiner in a rural hospital. One day he does an autopsy on a woman who died of an apparent suicide. His findings rule out suicide and he writes down homicide as the cause of death. This makes him a target of someone who wants this to stay hidden and swept under the rug. After more people start dying and his friend goes missing, he decides to conduct his own investigation which puts a target on his back. He teams up with Tan, who is one of the suspects, to solve the mystery. This is a 14-episode drama and I have watched 6 episodes so far.
WHAT I AM LOVING:
-THE 2 LEADS: We can't talk about Manner of Death without talking about the 2 leads in the drama. Max and Tul are no strangers to working together. They have acted together in the beloved BL drama Together With Me and its follow-up drama Together With Me: The Next Chapter. I have not seen these two dramas yet so Manner of Death is my introduction to this pair and their acting. It shows in Manner of Death that they are very comfortable working together. THEIR CHEMISTRY JUMPS OFF THE SCREEN! You can just feel the spark between these two actors and they play so well off of each other. You can cut their sexual tension with a knife when they are together on screen and they could just be looking at each other! They can be across the set from each other or not even in the same room together and you can still see that they are good actors and have a nice rapport with the cast and crew. These two actors make their on-screen pairing VERY BELIEVABLE!
-CINEMATOGRAPHY: With all the Thai dramas I have seen so far, which really was this year because I made it a point to watch more Thai dramas this year, Manner of Death, BY FAR, has the highest budget in my eyes. It may be because this drama takes place out in the countryside and not in the capital but the cinematography of this drama is BEAUTIFUL! The sweeping shots of all the nature and mountains are breathtaking! Also, to shoot in the rural villages and have scenes of markets and streets in the drama really gives a sense of realism with this drama. I just love the look of this drama SO MUCH!
-STORY: What I love about the story in this drama is it isn't just about the two main leads relationship. It still revolves around a murder mystery and trying to catch a killer. You can actually replace both leads with a heterosexual couple and it would still be a great drama! It would still be an engaging drama and would be entertaining. It is a bonus that it is a BL drama so you have that unique dynamic in a crime drama such as this. This is a sign of a good writer and good source material. So, I am excited to continue with this drama and solve the mystery with the characters. Of course, also see the 2 lead's relationship evolve and become something more because I am invested in that aspect of the drama as well.
I will say there is nothing I am NOT liking about this drama right now. I look forward to it every week and I am going to be sad to say goodbye to it when it is done. I am excited to watch more and see who the culprit is.
RIGHT NOW - MY RATING FOR THIS DRAMA IS 9/10
