CRIME/THRILLER DRAMAS TO WATCH FOR HALLOWEEN

We are continuing the celebration of Halloween by talking about crime dramas again. Now, I have written multiple blogposts about dramas to watch for Halloween. You can look at past ones here, here and here. I am not going to talk about any of the dramas mentioned in those blogposts so, you can go back and look at them for more recommendations. I may have mentioned the 6 dramas below in other blogposts on my blog OR on podcast episodes or just on social media. They are probably dramas I have mentioned before, that is why they are on this list though. I keep coming back to them because I enjoy them so much.

Now, the goal of this year's list of dramas to celebrate Halloween is to stick STRICTLY to crime dramas. The main genre had to be about crime. It could be mainly about ghosts or demons. I may have cheated just a bit BUT OVERALL, all of these dramas are straight up crime dramas. As I said in my podcast episode for my review on The Victim's Game, I usually use October to talk about crime dramas and to highlight a genre that people may not watch or want to dip their toes into but don't know where to start. This blog post will be no different. I also said in that podcast episode that I get scared with possession and demons but for some reason I am okay with pretty much everything that happens in a crime drama. So, if you are like me where you get scared by supernatural stuff, but violent crime dramas are okay for you, YOU HAVE FOUND YOUR LIST FOR HALLOWEEN!!

HERE ARE 6 DRAMAS TO CELEBRATE HALLOWEEN!!

KDRAMA

The Memorist was marketed as like a comedic crime drama AND IT WAS FAR FROM IT! It does have its light moments BUT overall, it is a dark and intense crime drama. This crime kdrama is just so much darker than I assumed it would be. I remember being so surprised by it because I watched it as it aired. The villain in this drama is creepy and memorable. It goes from 0 - 100 in no time and just gets very intense and anxiety filled crime drama. It is an AMAZING and well-acted crime drama, but it is a dark, disturbing crime drama that is perfect for a Halloween watch. You won't want to put it down and will want to click play on the next episode immediately.

JDRAMA

Whenever someone asks for crime recommendations, I will always include Erased in those recommendations. It stars one of my favorite Japanese actors Furukawa Yuki and is an adaption from a very popular anime as well. I might have to do a Versus podcast episode with this drama and the anime at some point because I have never watched the anime before. The subject matter for this drama is not easy to watch because it involves children so, Trigger Warning for Child abuse. This crime drama BLEW MY MIND when I first watched it because I didn't know it was based off of anything so, I did not know what I was walking into. It has beautiful cinematography and is very addictive. I will warn you; IT IS A VERY DARK CRIME DRAMA! The main character can time travel and one day he ends up time traveling back to when he was a kid in elementary school where he tries and solve a possibly kidnapping as a child. So, there is a little fantasy going on within this story as well.

CDRAMA

I know I have mentioned this drama before, and it was the first review I ever wrote for the blog back in 2020. It is still one of the best crime Chinese dramas I have ever seen. The message of hope that this drama has at the end is just breathtaking, given the dark issues it brings up...THE CHARACTERS/RELATIONSHIPS ARE WHAT MAKE THIS DRAMA SPECIAL! This is a crime drama that keeps you guessing until the end. The structure of the story is well done where it only reveals clues as the characters reveal them. It keeps you interested that way. The acting is this in phenomenal. I can't recommend this one enough.

JDRAMA

This Japanese drama is ONE HELL OF A RIDE! It is a Jdrama about a series of locked room mysteries centered around a professor & an associate professor. I just remember that this crime drama was SUPER unpredictable/crazy & had one hell of a concept/villain. The villain is downright NUTS! Japan does love its' locked room mysteries. Half the time you will watch this Jdrama and ask what the hell am I watching and the other half you are glued to your seat, taking in every second of the drama. THE CHEMISTRY OF THESE 2 LEADS ARE AMAZING! Don't let the poster fool you because there is no romance in this drama BUT MAN THEIR CHEMISTRY PALPABLE! I NEED THEM IN A ROMANCE DRAMA! I wish I had access to this jdrama to rewatch it again. I did just find out that there is an anime version of this drama so, I now need to watch that.

CDRAMA

I have talked about this cdrama SO MANY TIMES! I adore Season 1. Season 2 was just okay and could be skipped in my opinion. The acting was fine, but the story was a let-down. This one mixes the supernatural with crime a bit and can be quite dark. It is still 2 people investigating crimes in their town though. Tientsin has strong found family vibes. It got a bromance which is always fun. This drama can also get quite dark due to the natural of the murders that happen in the drama just FYI. This drama is a police procedural, and a supernatural/fantasy drama all wrapped up together in one drama. It definitely can get creepy at times. I need more cdramas like this! Apparently, they are rebooting this drama too.

KDRAMA

LAST but certainly not least, WE HAVE TO MENTION MY CURRENT OBSESSION! I put this drama last because it is not done yet. I don't know the ending, but I still need to mention it and recommend it. I am halfway through this drama and enjoy it IMMENSELY! This crime drama is SUPER DARK! You got demons walking earth who are killing bad people. You watch those bad people commit crimes and then get punished by our main female lead by reliving their crimes themselves. You have multiple characters out for revenge and turn to killing themselves. I AM ENJOYING IT SO MUCH AND CAN'T WAIT TO WATCH MORE! Trigger warning for sexually assault, abuse, murder etc.

There you go - there is 5 more dramas to check out for Halloween. Feel free to check out my other 3 blogposts where I recommend more dramas to watch for Halloween which I linked at the top of this blogpost.
