You don't have a lot of time to watch a drama. You need something with short episodes or just a drama that you can binge all in one day. SHORT WEB DRAMAS ARE THE WAY TO GO! Most of the episodes are only 10-15 minutes so they are perfect to watch when you don't have a lot of time to kill for a 45-minute to an hour episode. I am covering Queen of Attack in this review today. I will be writing about both seasons in this one post so, it might have a little different of a format. You can find both seasons of this web drama on Youtube.
*Now as per usual with any review I write, I will not be including any spoilers in this review.*
A QUICK SYNOPSIS OF QUEEN OF ATTACK - Liang Wei Wei, a track and field student, accidentally entered a historical drama starring the idol Jing Qing. She becomes the disgraced empress who is set to die in the third episode. In order to get rid of this "setup", Liang Wei Wei uses her knowledge as a drama fan and skillfully uses the plot mechanism to escape fate and start a fantasy bitter-sweet love story with the emperor played by Jing Qing. In Season 2, Liang Wei Wei returns and is now the villainess queen. Jing Qing is not the emperor but a general wanting to kill her.
Overall, I found this drama to be surprisingly good. It wasn't a new concept or anything but there was just something about it. I will say, I did like season 1 more than season 2. Season 2 wasn't bad but I think Season 1 just was better for various reasons which I will explain below. If you are looking for some shorter dramas to watch, you will probably be still entertained by this drama.
WHAT I LOVED ABOUT THIS DRAMA
THE COUPLE - One of the highlights of this drama for me was the main couple. I thought they were quite cute together. The couple had a great chemistry between the two of them. I became a fan of their pairing and rooted for them and their story. The couple and their story was a highlight with both of the seasons. I clicked play on season 2 because I wanted to see how their story played out.
THE STORY - The story was quite entertaining. Now, there is nothing new with the concept of a female lead being pulled into a manga or game or her own script. So, Season 1 was nothing new but it was still good. Season 2 put an interesting twist on this concept. The story made the female lead the villain which I thought was new and refreshing. It led to a lot of comedic parts and I thought it changed up the dynamic of the main couple just enough that it didn't just seem like a season 2 with the same old stuff from season 1. I watched Season 2 because I wanted to see this change up and the female lead as the villain. IT WORKED!
THE ACTING - Was it the BEST ACTING I had ever seen? NO but it was good enough. The main couple acted well off of each other. I wasn't pulled out of the story by their acting. You can tell that the actors enjoyed shooting this drama series. They cared about their characters. The main two actors sold their characters and story.
WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER
THE PACING - Both seasons of this drama had pacing problems. Season 2 had FAR MORE pacing problems than Season 1 though. Season 1's pacing was just a little off in the beginning and end but overall, it was fine. Season 2's pacing was a mess. For such short episodes and even episode count, the pacing was VERY choppy and weirdly paced. There were a couple of times where I got so confused with what was going on which should not have happened with a short web drama.
